Ideas of Friend/Kimpton-Nye, by Text

[British, fl. 2023, both at University of Bristol.]

2023 Dispositions and Powers
2.1.1 p.5 Dispositions have directed behaviour which occurs if triggered
2.2.1 p.10 'Masked' dispositions fail to react because something intervenes
2.2.2 p.11 A disposition is 'altered' when the stimulus reverses the disposition
2.2.3 p.12 A disposition is 'mimicked' if a different cause produces that effect from that stimulus
2.2.4 p.14 A 'trick' can look like a stimulus for a disposition which will happen without it
2.3.3 p.24 Some dispositions manifest themselves without a stimulus
2.3.5 p.26 We could analyse dispositions as 'possibilities', with no mention of a stimulus
3.2 p.45 Hume's Dictum says no connections are necessary - so mass and spacetime warping could separate
3.2 p.46 Powers are properties which necessitate dispositions
3.3.1 p.48 Humeans see properties as having no more essential features and relations than their distinctness [PG]
3.3.1 p.50 Dispositions are what individuate properties, and they constitute their essence
3.3.3 p.54 Dispositionalism says modality is in the powers of this world, not outsourced to possible worlds
3.4 p.55 A power is a property which consists entirely of dispositions
3.4 p.57 Powers are qualitative properties which fully ground dispositions
3.7 p.71 Dispositional essentialism (unlike the grounding view) says only fundamental properties are powers
